Odwyn Jones Awards 2016

6 x Scholarships of $5,000 as stipends to academically excellent students applying to fourth year Honours by research OR a final year engineering research project.

MRIWA's Odwyn Jones Awards Program honours the contribution of Emeritus Professor Ifan Odwyn Jones AO to education, enabling the long‐term future of the minerals industry in Western Australia. Professor Jones chaired the Minerals Research Advisory Committee of the Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia from 1999 ‐ 2013.

Closing Date for EOI and Application: Friday, March 11, 2016

1. Eligibility criteria

- The applicant must be an undergraduate student enrolled at the time of application with Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University or the University of Western Australia

- The applicant must be enrolled to undertake a final year Honours research project in the application year
OR
The applicant must be enrolled to undertake a final year engineering research project

- The research project must contribute a minimum of 25% of the academic load for the final year of study

- The student’s Honours research project must align with MRIWA’s objectives and be within the scope of the MRIWA Research Priority Plan

2. Expression of Interest to MRIWA

Must include:


- Student name and University Student ID Number with university’s confirmation of current enrolment

- Project title and a paragraph describing the proposed research

- Letter of reference

3. Application to University Scholarship Office (see University website)

Must include:


- Student name and University Student ID Number

- Project title and a one‐page summary written by the student including:

  • Explanation of how the proposed project aligns with MRIWA’s Research Priority Plan and Objectives

  • A description of the project’s research objective

  • A description of the year’s work plan

  • The student’s supervisor’s name and their endorsement that the proposed project is in the discipline of Minerals research
