220908 - MRIWA Staff Ken Green


Ken Green has joined MRIWA as a Research Portfolio Manager in September 2022. Ken is leading the development of a strategy to support innovation and R&D within the mining, engineering, technology and services (METS) companies here in Western Australia.

Ken is the principal owner of Simplfy; a boutique consultancy specialising in innovation and commercialisation with a focus on the exploitation of intellectual and other intangible assets.

Over the last 10 years Kens work has focussed on the importance of networks; creating collaborations between companies, research organisation focussed on commercial exploitation of Intellectual capital and the development and commercialisation of new products.

Ken was previously a Director with a UK Photonics SME which grew from 8 to 80 staff over 10 years and exited through a trade sale to the world’s largest optics manufacturer. He has led a university spin-out company from Southampton University and licensed technology from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in London.

He has also held a number of technology transfer and industry engagement roles in the UK for big science projects such as Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) at the European Southern Observatory and the ‘Aurora’ mission to Mars for the European Space Agency.

Before arriving in Australia Ken was involved in conducting Commercial IP diligence and IP Valuations for a major UK clearing bank that enabled them to provide a Venture Debt product to finance growth companies rich in intangible assets but lacking traditional security provisions.

For the last 10 years Ken has been running innovation and collaborative research programmes and has been responsible for project investments of over $18m with start-ups and SMEs.
