MRIWA thanks everyone who applied and acknowledges the time and effort that went into preparing submissions. The strong interest in the program reflects the important role research and innovation continue to play in advancing Western Australia’s minerals sector.

The 2027 program offered five scholarships across priority areas including Critical Minerals, Net Zero Emissions Mining, Green Steel and Precision Mining, supporting PhD students undertaking minerals and mining-related research at Western Australian universities.

Applications are now progressing through the assessment process, with scholarship offers expected from January 2027.

Successful recipients will also have access to MRIWA’s Education and Workforce Program, providing opportunities for professional development, industry engagement and connections across Western Australia’s minerals research community.

Thank you again to everyone who expressed an interest in the 2027 program, and we look forward to welcoming the next cohort of MRIWA-supported researchers.
