Cooperative Research Centres
MRIWA actively participates in a number of the Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) which are co-funded by the Australian Government, research entities and industry to undertake medium to long-term, industry-led research.
Current
CRC for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRCTiME)

The CRC for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRCTiME) will drive transformation change to enable regions and communities to transition to a prosperous and sustainable post-mine future.
Mineral Exploration CRC (MinEx CRC)

The Mineral Exploration CRC (MinEx CRC) is developing more productive, safer and environmentally-friendly technologies supporting the discovery and definition of mineral deposits, including coiled tubing drilling technology and new technologies for collecting and interpreting data while drilling.
Heavy Industry Low-Carbon Transition CRC (HILT CRC)

HILT CRC was formed for 10 years from 2021 to enable our heavy industry sector to compete in the low-carbon global economy for carbon-neutral materials such as ‘green’ iron, alumina, cement, and other processed minerals. The Australian Heavy Industries sector will benefit substantially from a carefully considered mix of electrification and hydrogen. HILT CRC mission is to enable the pathways for technologies and methods to overcome the barriers to the low carbon transition. The three program areas developed are: Processing; Crosscutting technologies; Roadmaps for transition.

Future Battery Industries CRC (FBI CRC)

The Future Battery Industries CRC (FBI CRC) is enabling the growth of battery industries to power Australia’s future and ensure Australia plays a leading role in the global battery revolution. MRIWA is a key participant, contributing $6 million over 6 years, of which $500,000 is contributed by the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
