A New Era for Green Metals
$750 Million Investment Signals Bright Future for Australian Mining Innovation
On 14 March 2025, the Australian Government unveiled a landmark $750 million investment to propel innovation in green metals, a pivotal step toward a sustainable future for the mining industry. Announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese MP and Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic MP at Curtin University, this funding, administered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), forms a key part of the Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund. At MRIWA, we’re excited to see this initiative come to life and proud to play a role in its announcement.
The investment targets critical sectors—iron, steel, alumina, and aluminium—focusing on two transformative goals. First, it will drive the development of innovative technologies to enhance productivity while significantly reducing emissions, aligning with global sustainability demands. Second, it will support green metals pilot and demonstration projects, accelerating the journey from laboratory research to commercial-scale operations. This bridge between research and industry application is vital for ensuring Australia remains a leader in the global transition to net-zero emissions.
This investment marks a turning point for Australia’s mining sector, fostering collaboration between government, industry, and research institutions. At MRIWA, we’re committed to supporting initiatives that drive sustainable progress and position Western Australia at the forefront of the green metals revolution. Stay tuned for updates as this initiative unfolds, and join us in celebrating a future where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
