This is a Department of Industry, Science and Resources’ funding initiative, managed by the Australian Critical Minerals R&D Hub (hosted by CSIRO).
The Australian Critical Minerals R&D Hub invites eligible Australian researchers, postgraduate students, and professionals to seize this opportunity to collaborate with global experts and contribute to Australia’s strategic priorities in the critical minerals sector. Program Overview
The critical minerals sector is pivotal to the global transition to clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable technologies. The International Scholarship Program facilitates impactful research collaborations with leading institutions in priority countries, including EU member states, Germany, France, the UK, Korea, Canada, Japan, and the USA.
Successful applicants can receive up to AU$10,000 per month for a maximum of six months to cover economy-class airfares, reasonable accommodation, transportation, and related expenses. This funding supports research aligned with the Australian Critical Minerals Strategy 2023-2030, fostering innovation that addresses technical challenges in critical minerals supply chains.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to individuals who meet the following requirements:
- Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency (including Australian citizens temporarily overseas).
- Employment by an organisation with a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) and Australian Company Number (ACN).
- Age 18 years or older.
- Engagement in activities related to critical minerals, such as:
- Research at a university or agency.
- Enrolment in a PhD or relevant postgraduate studies.
- Work in policy, regulation, or educational/science initiatives tied to critical minerals.
- Research proposals that align with Australia’s strategic interests, as defined in the Australian Critical Minerals Strategy 2023-2030.
The scholarship is not intended to support the completion of tertiary qualifications but to enable collaborative research that enhances Australia’s capabilities in critical minerals. Applicants may hold the scholarship concurrently with other funding, subject to disclosure requirements.

Application Process
Applications are open from April 2025 to December 2025, or until funds are exhausted, with scholarships awarded until 27 February 2026 or when funding is fully allocated. Applicants must ensure their research aligns with the Australian Critical Minerals List and the Australian Critical Minerals Strategy 2023-2030. Key requirements include:
- Detailed expense plans, subject to approval by the Australian Critical Minerals R&D Hub.
- Compliance with Australian Defence Export Controls and host country regulations.
- Appropriate intellectual property arrangements to maximise research impact and protect Australian interests.
Successful applicants will be notified in writing, and their organisation will enter into a contract with CSIRO. All travel and reporting obligations must be completed by 15 May 2026, with a final report submitted within four weeks of returning to Australia.
