The Challenge
Smaller exploration companies undertake as much as 70% of the greenfields exploration occurring in Western Australia, but are heavily under-represented among companies participating in formal research, raising the potential that the innovation needs of this key industry sub-group are not being met by the current research market.
Proposed Solution
This study will evaluate the market valuation and financial performance of junior (small-cap) exploration companies in relation to their engagement and investment in research activity, and explore executive attitudes and perceived barriers to research in the sector.
Proposed Benefits to WA
By determining whether a discrete market value can be ascribed to participation in research activity, this study could help establish a value proposition supporting wider engagement of junior exploration companies in research, helping to drive innovative practice in this key component of the Western Australian exploration community.
