The Challenge

Modern intensive data science offers tools and workflows that can enhance and support the management of repetitive maintenance practices, but this efficiency is not commonly incorporated in conventional resources industry practice

Key Findings

The Centre for Transforming Maintenance through Data Science (CTMTDS) excelled as a talent development engine for WA, producing a cohort of graduates and early-career researchers with strong industry-facing data science skills, and experience applying data science to the maintenance challenges of the minerals industry.

Benefits to WA

CTMTDS outputs and graduates have strengthened Western Australia’s resources sector by building industry‑ready data science models ready to meet the challenges of mining sector maintenance. These outputs have helped improve productivity and safety across the sector, embedding advanced analytics in local firms and strengthening WA’s university–industry research networks.
