The Challenge
Understanding the opportunity for Western Australia in relation to the 31 commodities on the Australian Critical Minerals List from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
Proposed Solution
Working with a multi-disciplinary team of four university students, prepare overviews of each commodity to inform future research direction and development potential by considering:
- Known reserves, resources and current production rates.
- Current uses of those critical minerals and their processing pathways, identifying issues and challenges faced to decarbonise and meet ESG credentials.
- Potential for secondary production avenues.
- Midstream processing opportunities for these critical minerals.
Proposed Benefits to WA
While Western Australia is home to a vast range of critical minerals, additional mining, refining and downstream processing of a larger range of these critical minerals will build on the State’s existing strengths and reinforcing its leading role in the global supply chain.
