The Challenge

The Yilgarn is an important mineral province that has delivered great wealth to Western Australia. New mineral discoveries supporting the continued productivity of this well-explored region will require an enhanced understanding of ore body formation and distribution below the surface.

Key Findings

This study produced new datasets and understanding supporting mineral exploration in the Yilgarn, including new geophysical surveys, structural analysis, geochemical and isotopic data, and ages defining key mineralisation episodes for the region.
Key findings include:

  • Recognition of a history of ancient deformation of the landscape, creating a structural framework influencing important periods of mineralisation.
  • Definition of a series of significant structures correlated to the location of major gold mineralisation in prospective regions of the Yilgarn.

Benefits to WA

Data and insights delivered through this work will help innovative exploration companies develop and sustain improved mineral exploration targeting practices for the Yilgarn region. Such improved understanding and workflows will encourage increased exploration investment and support future mineral discoveries maintaining the value delivered to WA from this highly endowed province.
