The Challenge

The minerals research sector is comprised of a complex combination of human and infrastructure resources, institutions, sponsors, and other stakeholder groups. Understanding of this complex sectoral landscape could support greater efficiency in the allocation and targeting of investment to address identified state polocy objectives.

Proposed Solution

Working under the direction of MRIWA, the student researcher undertaking this project will develop a comprehensive inventory of the exploration research and development landscape in Western Australia, comprising a summary of research facilities, groups and infrastructure relevant to the creation of technology and knowledge advancing mineral exploration. This could include desktop research, interviews with key stakeholders, and analysis of vulnerabilities to factors including market conditions and funding sources.

Proposed Benefits to WA

The inventory would inform the development of strategic advice to government and other potential sponsoring parties on future investment in research workforce and infrastructure, and is intended to be publicly released.
