The Challenge
Iron Ores for Green Iron production technologies requires beneficiation to increase grade and remove impurities. To make Western Australian ores more suitable for these technologies the ores need to be able to using low energy techniques to enhance separation and recoveries of the iron.
Proposed Solution
The technology proposed uses high-flux radiation provided by green energy sources (e.g., hydrogen combustion) and has already been shown to be able to provide multiple benefits, including softening (which reduces energy use in subsequent downstream grinding processes), de-hydroxylation of goethite and increased magnetism (via increased grade), to enhance magnetic separation, and potential to recovery valuable by-products
Proposed Benefits to WA
The project will provide a front end engineering design for a pilot plant that can treat lower grade Western Australian ores to make them suitable for supply to green iron projects in Australia and for global steelmakers.
