Biography
Dr. Hongqi Sun joined the Board in 2023. He is a Professor of Chemistry and ARC Future Fellow (Level 3) at UWA. He previously held academic positions at ECU (Professor of Chemical Engineering, 2016-2023) and Curtin University (2009-2016).
He serves as an ARC College of Experts member, IMNIS mentor (ATSE), and was a delegate to Energy Asia (Austrade) and US-Australia Hydrogen Research Partnerships (DCCEEW-CSIRO). He is Editor-in-Chief of Cleaner Chemical Engineering (Elsevier) and Associate Editor of RSC Advances. He was the chair of ECU’s Research Professoriate (2021-2022), and Deputy Chair of a university safety committee (RBHSC, 2017-2019).
A leading researcher in renewable energy, catalysis, critical minerals, and environmental remediation, he has published over 300 papers with 44,000+ citations and an h-index of 116 (Google Scholar, June 2025). He was named the Mid-Career Scientist of the Year in 2023 WA Premier’s Science Awards, and among Australia’s Top 40 Research Superstars (The Australian, 2020).
