Abatement of dust in the Kalgoorlie region by revegetation of overburden stockpiles

Summary

A three year research project into revegetation of overburden stockpiles is described.

Overburden from the Golden Mile was found to be moderately to highly saline, highly sodic, compacted, and infertile with widely varying pH’s.

Species most adapted to these conditions were Atriplex and Maireana.

Resulting from the research, various establishment recommendations are made.
