Factors that affect splice strength in conveyor belts
A laboratory scale conveyor belt splice apparatus has been constructed that enables splices to be made under controlled conditions of pressure and temperature.
The apparatus was used to investigate a number of variables associated with the construction of a belt splice, including pressure, vulcanisation temperature, rubber systems from different manufacturers, vulcanisation time, humidity and the effect of buffing the wire cord relative to an unbuffed cord.
